KISS PSYCHO CIRCUS by SPACEBASS

Write a letter to KISS PSYCHO CIRCUS. We did!

We had the honor of having our letter printed in the letters column (Psycho Babble) of KISS PSYCHO CIRCUS # 10. It was the first letter we have ever written to a comic book, so it makes it that much cooler. Here is the letter reprinted followed by their answer:

Dear Psycho Babblers,
I can remember it like yesterday, reading the first KISS: Psycho Circus comic book in awe. I loved it thoroughly and was already counting the days until issue #2. I figured, I have to write a letter to this comic, something I have never had the urge to do. But then, I thought, what if this is just a fluke? A killer first issue to hook KISS fans, then a slow descent for the worse. I was so "psyched" that I went to my computer and searched for a web site dedicated to the comic, figuring that at least one KISS fan would have an "in" with you guys and I would have a new site to check in on. I didn't see much, so I thought that maybe I would have a go at it, but I was hesitant. What if the comic isn't always as good as the first issue? Well, here's the good news: your comic is still my favorite and I just finished issue #9. It never disappoints me and I wait for the next one all month long. On May 6, 1998 my wife and I finally put up our first web site. The subject matter: KISS: Psycho Circus!!

I love the fact that the back story of the characters are shrouded in mystery and that only a small amount is revealed at a time. The storytelling is perfect. (I'm sure Todd McFarlane agrees, as I see Brian Holguin is now writing for Spawn, by the way.) Todd, if you're reading this: DO A COMIC BOOK WITH CLIVE BARKER!! You are the only one to do his material justice. Another point that I must make is about the lettering. I've never seen a more expressive style of lettering in a comic book ever before. It is just as expressive as the writing and drawing.

How about a 3-D Psycho Circus comic book? After I read The Maxx in 3D, I thought to myself, "I need to see the KISS book like this." For all the fans eager to see the Fox, wait. I'm sure we'll see him in the future. We're in no rush right? I for one want this comic book to go on and on. How about hearing from Peter & Ace like we did from Paul & Gene (issues #1 & 2)? I would love to hear how they feel about the book.

I'm beginning to ramble, so I'll rap it up. Whatever it is that you guys are doing, keep it up. I love it and I truly do believe that you don't need to be a KISS fan to enjoy this comic book. For fans

It's always nice to see when a fan takes something they enjoy and tries to go beyond it by doing something a little more personal. In this case, creating your own little web page. Keep me informed as to what kind of feedback you're getting that might be appropriate for putting into this book. We are always looking to hear from the fans as to what they like, want, or don't want on any level.

As for whether the Fox will appear, I'm sure that once we get through our initial stage of setting everything up and giving the information we want, those kind of surprises will come when you least expect it.

We'll also be getting some remarks from Ace and Peter about what they think of the product. One of the things that is too easy to do is giving the four members something to say at the beginning and then all of a sudden you are staring at blank pages or extra editorial content later on. My style has always been to be patient and get some nice subjects bantered about or stories being told early on. I also like to save a couple of the aces for later in the game when people are getting to the point where they don't think any surprises are going to come along. That's when you throw that little curve ball at the people so they say "Wow, I didn't think that the book could actually turn into that" or "I thought this was always going to be this." It's one of the skills in doing comic books and hopefully they will be around for years. You have to give just enough information and surprises to keep readers coming back from month to month, but not give them too much so they feel like there's nothing new because they have all the answers. So keeping the readers hungry but not frustrating them is one tough balancing act that each creator or publisher has to go through month in and month out. Luckily, we've been okay for the first ten issues and hopefully I can say that by the time we get to issue 110! Thanks.

Well, there it is. It wasn't hard at all. Why don't you give it a try?

One last note: the letter was printed with one small mistake. I have corrected it above. They printed "Todd if you're reading this: do Clive Barker." when in fact I wrote: "do a comic book with Clive Barker." I truly feel that Todd & Clive would work well together, both on the comic front & the toy front. I would love to read Night Breed comics, or see Cenobite action figures, or have them create something entirely new. Much like Clive's RAZORLINE comics from the early '90's.

By the way, if you do choose to write to them,

DON'T FORGET TO TELL THEM

We work long & hard on many of the pictures found on this site. Please do us a favor: don't
rationalize stealing ANYTHING. If you can't create an original web site, don't do one!
Real simple, right? Anyway, if you do, I'll let my boys Nicky & Mickey pay you a visit. I may
even go as far as getting the Nightmare King to resurrect Deuce! This could get ugly...
