Tiberius MacLir was a big game hunter that traveled far and wide to add beasts to his prized collection. A momentous turn in his life occured while on safari in Africa hunting a great white lion rumored to be in the area. He had assembled a hunting party comprised of natives and a tribesman named Mtume, a great hunter of lions who carried a grand old spear and proved to be an excellent scout. However, after two weeks of tracking, Tiberius began to wonder aloud if the white lion was a myth. That very night, the great beast ambushed the camp and escaped, but not before gutting Mtume and killing many others. As Mtume lay dying, he passed on his spear to Tiberius. As he accepted the spear, he felt something within him begin to change. After sending the remainder of the party back to the tribe, Tiberius obsessively continued to track the beast alone. While barely sleeping or eating, he tried to think more like his prey as he tracked the lion deeper into the wild. Ultimately, the great white lion attacked Tiberius, knocking the rifle from his hands. As a last resort, Tiberious propped Mtume's spear against the ground as the lion prepared to dive upon him. Although the spear ended the lion's life, Tiberius was crushed by the weight of the mighty beast. As he laid beneath the weight of the lion overnight, Tiberius realized it was only then that he truly knew the nature of beasts. At daybreak, the avatar of the Beast King approached from across the plains and offered a pact to become a vessel of the Elder. As soon as Tiberius accepted the challenge, he immediately found himself walking along the side of a unfamiliar dusty road where he met up with the passing Circus.
